The cabbage seedpod #weevil (Ceutorhynchus obstrictus) is an invasive #pest of #canola in North America. The most significant damage is caused by the larvae feeding inside the seedpods which results in 5-30% yield losses. Someone joked about #margarine not being a real food, a comedian if memory serves. We happen to agree, but perhaps not for the same reasons they might have stated. Instead because margarines here in Australia seem to be #canola-based, which is a sort of code-word for 'cancer' if you look at how such #GMO crops can be grown.

"Canola Field in Bloom"

The snow is gone again, but it's still very cold outside. Waiting for Spring to arrive. Somewhen last Spring I saw this beautiful canola field during a bike tour on the Mulderadweg (Mulde Bike Path) in Germany and of course had to take pictures.

#Canola crops are ready for harvesting.

They start off as lush fields of bright yellow. Last visit to the farm the farmhouse was surrounded, as far as the eye could see with yellow. I’ll dig out and post those pics in a second.

Anyways, over half of Australia’s canola production will be exported to #Europe this year. It’s in demand abroad.

The canola seeds (small black round seeds removed from dry woody pods) are ground and the oil is extracted. The higher the oil content, the more the farmer receives per tonne of production. There’s a bit more to it than that, as quality of the product also factors into price.

The oil is used for a variety of products; like biodiesel and in food including: margarine, cooking oils etc.

My brother in law and his boys are harvesting #wheat up to 18 hours a day atm, even today on #christmas. Will start on canola after that.

Farm life is rewarding. But tough as well!

So stormy here... Avoca, Tasmania. The Ben Lomond mountain range has disappeared. The canola is just so beautiful. The farmers have stopped growing opium poppies as the big bucks are in canola - in part due to war in Ukraine and shortage of sunflower oil.

A couple of months ago the farm (sisters joint) was bustling with activity centred around cropping (and spring lambs), until the rains came.

Much of their crops were ruined or downgraded at best. They’ll harvest but much will be used for stock feed or be dug into the ground for next year.

The ups and downs of farm life is difficult for any city person to comprehend sometimes. For me, yes.

Most #Australianfarmers are resilient as anything. They dust themselves off and go again next year. #extraordinary.

What yo shared about 9 months ago was an excerpt from something, it talked about an acid from chicken, eggs, fish etc that can cause #mentalIllness, in disporportion.

Anyway it's nice to hear your story and that you overcame it.

We strongly believe there's definately an issue with eating #tuna and/or #GMSoy #corn and #canola products too. Note: #soy-filler is in almost all #food today. Can be marked on labels as #HydrolisedVegetableProtein, #soya.
