SEATTLE — "With ropes, a harness, a hammock and a bucket pulley system, masked activists in Seattle have taken residence in the branches of an old, thick cedar tree to prevent it from being cut down to make way for new homes.
"The protest on a private lot is the latest episode highlighting tensions behind tree policy in Seattle as #ClimateChange increases temperatures and urban #canopy decreases.
"The Western red cedar, dubbed 'Luma,' is about 80 feet (24.4 meters) tall, with two trunks that are each about 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter.
"Its age is not known, but activists have estimated it could be as much as 200 years old. The #Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is seeking to have the tree preserved for its archaeological significance, saying that #NativeAmericans shaped its branches generations ago to distinguish it as a trail marker."

If you're familiar with #EasternHemlock #forests then you might picture them as a closed #canopy with sparse vegetation in the #understory.
But when a fallen tree opens up that canopy, the #gap supports a profusion of #regeneration.
Very cool to find this understory #heterogeneity at #RBWinterStatePark in #Pennsylvania.

In this year’s platform release, many CloudKit types, most importantly CKRecord, are now Sendable 🎉
Nice to see in the docs, and confirmed in an Ask Apple session.
I built Canopy with Xcode 15 and was wondering where all the actor boundary crossing warnings had gone.
I still got work to make Canopy completely warning-free, but this is great.

#Canopy is notable for its beautiful cards and high luck factor. On your turn, you look at up to three piles of cards, one pile after another. If you pass on a pile, you add a card to sweeten it for the future.
In today's game, I ended up with a lot of animals. I also lucked into enough canopies to score all of my trees.
We have the deluxe version with wooden animals, but I think I actually prefer the cardboard animals for their colorful artwork.
