The embryonic fruit from the last update hasn't changed much, but the flower has died. If it's a #cantaloupe, it should take 40 days to ripen, assuming it even got pollinated. I have no way to tell.

Some other female flowers have grown, with their own tiny fruits, but males are no longer growing, so I have no way to pollinate.

This is a common strategy for wild plants, first male flowers, then female. It reduces self #pollination.

It's gotten a lot bigger, and has started trying to climb my basil. I still think it's in the #cucumber family, and PlantNet seems to agree, having changed its vote back to #cantaloupe.

However, in a stunning upset, Google Lens has changed its vote to #chayote (aka #mirliton). This is almost certainly wrong.

Human experts have so far guessed: squash, cucumber, and bottle gourd.

No female flowers yet. So we continue to wait.

It has flowers now, which you'd think would help to identify it, but in fact all /Cucumis/ have similar flowers, so it's not much help.

Interestingly, Google Lens has (finally!) changed its vote from #squash to #cucumber, but PlantNet has changed its vote from cucumber to #cantaloupe

As for me, I am sure it is a /Cucumis/, but remain undecided.

Top contenders are cucumber (but no variety I've ever planted) and cantaloupe (which I've never ever planted!)

In June, there were a few weeks when my local #TheFreshMarket had the best #peaches I've had since before #pandemic. I don't know where they were from, since most #Georgia's #peach #crop this year was lost.

Wednesday, I got a #cantaloupe #melon and cut it up this morning. It's the sweetest, juiciest cantaloupe I've had in 20 or more years (those were #Maryland #EasternShore melons).

The flavor reminds me of those orange peanut-shaped "marshmallow" candies, in a great way.

What a lunch! I now put chives on my burger apparently.
