A key figure in the #CanterburyScene, founding member of #SoftMachine and a friend of #SydBarrett, he recorded several brilliant solo albums from 1969 on, with musicians including #BridgetStJohn, #RobertWyatt, #SteveHillage, #MikeOldfield and #Nico.

#DaevidAllen , founder of #Gong and #SoftMachine , was born on 13 January 1938 in Melbourne.

Inspired by the Beats and Sun Ra, “Divided Alien” left Soft Machine in 1967 when he was refused reentry to England after a tour. He stayed in Paris with Gilli Smith and formed the first version of Gong, also joining in the 1968 protests by handing teddy bears to police and reciting poetry.
