The Painted Hand ruin is part of the Cutthroat Castle unit of Hovenweep National Monument. Sleeping Ute Mountain is visible in the background. Sadly, this area has been closed since 2018 because a private property owner refuses to allow access through their property.

Yes, it is that arch in that National Park. Hiked up there at 3:00am one fall morning in 2020. There was ~20 people there when I arrived. I left before dawn because there was ~100 people there. While hiking down I was almost elbow-to-elbow with people hiking up. As dawn broke, I saw the parking lot was full & there were cars parked halfway out the trail head access road toward the main highway.

My favorite part of the world! Go left or right into the PJ forests on either side of the road and you step into an ethereal landscape of vast canyons and endless exploring. Looks can be deceiving.

Inside a Pueblo II or III (1060-1270 C.E.) kiva in the middle of the night. The nearest (living) human was miles away. The streaks below the nooks on either side of the ladder are ~1000 years accumulation of Neotoma lepida (desert woodrat) urine. Present day Pueblo cultures use kivas for ceremonial purposes. It's unknown what kivas were used for a thousand years ago.
