Whenever news breaks of another Chinese covert police operation in another country (USA, Canada, now the UK), I always wonder why the host government doesn't arrest the covert police officers instead of just asking China politely to not do it again. Like guys, China has showed they don't play by the rules time and time again. Assert your own damn laws. Or is it not a crime to run a police agency for a foreign country in the US, CA, and UK?

In #CAPol (as in California) #housing news, the Senate just voted down common-sense reform to allow newer buildings to gradually phase in rent control.

State law preempts any rent control on buildings newer than 1995 (1979 in SF). This would simply have let 1996 buildings qualify starting next year, 1997 buildings the year after that, etc. Hardly a drastic change. Well, now we know who's on the side of landlords against the rest of us.

It's never a good sign when workers are divided and fighting each other instead of the boss. If I were celebrating such division as a chance to pass my agenda as a progressive, I'd do some soul-searching bc that's hardly the path to inclusivity.

Also, this article is missing important context that #SB35 currently applies to market rate in far less of the state due to meeting RHNA reqs that are about to increase. No need to remove skilled & trained now.

California legislature blew a golden opportunity to permanently make meetings of municipal bodies governed by the Brown Act more accessible.

As the COVID emergency declaration ends this month, all meetings must go back to in-person.

This, with no investments in indoor air quality and no mask mandates, disadvantages anybody who cares about their health, in particular the immunocompromised (which is most of the population, btw).
