Wow, I watched the movie #Capote last night. Very well done, he won the Oscar for best actor, but hard to believe that Philip Seymour Hoffman, died at age 46. #movies

Finished reading #GiovannisRoom by the great #JamesBaldwin last night. And what a book. Of course it’s a great #queer book, and that would be enough. But it’s also so much more. It says at least as much about America and the careless condition of the rich American dilettante as Fitzgerald in Gatsby, at least as much about love, betrayal and guilt as Zola in Thérèse Raquin. And with such an economy of style but richness of expression that I hope he made #Capote seethe with envy.

As a teenager I read Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood and thought it was best writing I’d ever read, but also that I could never read a true crime novel or faction (as #Capote called it) ever again.

Reading this article reminded me of Capote’s incredible work. I’ve watched the films and read all of his other work, but nothing quite lives up to his tragic magnum opus. And I still can’t read true crime.

Il bellissimo regalo di Natale della mia compagna, letteralmente una #booklovers. Ogni natale ci regaliamo un libro a vicenda “che sicuramente è del tuo genere”. Quest’anno stranamente mi ha regalato un libro più nel suo genere che nel mio. Furba come una volpe, ma la conosco troppo bene per dirglielo.

It’s that moment in #December when I feel the need for some #festive literature (preferably of the #ShortStory variety). My perennial favourite is A #Christmas Memory by Truman #Capote, which also includes One Christmas and The Thanksgiving Visitor. They are based on his childhood memories of the festive season in the Great Depression years of the 1930’s. They are honestly more uplifting than that sounds!

But I’d love to hear your recommendations.
