So I hear tell of a 200ha Felling Permission application with Scottish Forestry. It is likely to be approved. Apparently the plan is to revert to 'natural forest'. I hae ma doots aboot the quality of this forest. But what really concerns me is the unconditional removal of 200ha productive forest with NO replacement, & the state funded carbon offsetting scam that follows. Taxpayers are funding removal of real #CarbonCaptureStorage to allow continued #emissions & unearned profit #RegulatoryCapture

My LinkedIn feed is really trying to hype carbon capture/carbon removal... And I'm struggling a bit to understand why.

Reforestation? Forest preservation? Sustainable agriculture? Absolutely. Those are the kind of carbon removal we sorely need, and they rely only on nature itself and the incredible technologies it has invented for us to solve our exact problem.

But this feels more... Sinister. I'm afraid it's about #CarbonCaptureStorage #CCS. A misguided at best technology that permits fossil energy to continue as usual, and would utilize pipelines to transport compressed CO2, which has its own problems when it leaks. And it only makes sense fossil fuel companies would have the resources and motivation to hype this form of #Greenwashing.

Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS), also die Herausnahme von CO2 aus der Atmosphäre oder Abscheidung bei Verbrennungsprozessen und die Speicherung des CO2, kostet Energie.

Diese Energie wäre für den Klimaschutz effektiver eingesetzt, wenn mit ihr direkt die Energieerzeugung mit fossilen Brennstoffen ersetzt würde.

Bevor man nicht einen Überschuss an Energie aus nicht-fossilen Quellen hat, ist CCS somit schädlich fürs Klima.
