@MarkHoltom so easy to speak against a TRL6. I guess you have better ideas on how to go #carbonnegative (like H2, biochar, ocean or just planting trees), and you did the maths for each of those. For example, you spend 48-58 kWh (renewable energy) per 1 kg H2, that is 33.3 kWh (LHV, 120 MJ), that's equivalent to 6.7 kg of CO2 emissions avoided from natural gas. So, with green H2, you spend 7 - 8.5 kWh to "avoid" 1 kg of CO2,
with this "silly" DAC you spend 2.4 kWh to remove it. Your choice.

@peterdutoit yes I agree, but we must try: we're studying nuclear fusion (without tritium), we're pushing (maybe too) hard on hydrogen, we can't rule out CCS, because CO2 in the atmosphere is the cause of climate change. We must take the effort to clean up. The energy for this work is the excess generation from renewables (competition with hydrogen). We must manage to go #carbonnegative and take CO2 down to 300 ppm. It took a century, it will take another one.

Diciamolo bene, chiaro e forte: l'Europa bara. "Nel settore automotive le emissioni serra sono calcolate secondo la metodologia Tank To Wheel: in sostanza, è indifferente cosa sia entrato nel serbatoio, conta solo quanta CO2 esce dal tubo di scappamento." Invece dovrebbero applicare il Well to Wheel.

Anche il Politecnico di Torino, dopo Milano, evidenzia come le decisioni europee sull'auto elettrica siano totalmente antiscientifiche.
