Chris Field explains a generally overview of #ClimateChange.
What is it? What are it's effects? And most importantly what can we do to mitigate climate change.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/carbon-tax-inflation-tiff-macklem-calgary-1.6960189 “with year-over-year #inflation lately hovering around three per cent, this means the #CarbonTax causes one-twentieth of price increases. When inflation peaked at just above eight per cent last year, the carbon tax would have been responsible for one-54th of it.”
A global carbon tax with proceeds going to less wealthy countries is a brilliant idea because you can’t fight climate change by yourself, the worst effects are in the Global South and rich countries caused most of it.

African leaders capped their three-day #climate summit in Nairobi, Kenya, with a joint proposal for a global #carbon tax to fund the fight against climate change.

Even states can't hold fossil fuel companies liable for pollution:
"Judge Alsup’s primary rationale for dismissal was that the courts are not the proper place to deal with such global issues as determining rights and assigning responsibility for the damages caused by fossil fuel use. Rather, such matters should be addressed by the executive and legislative branches of government and not the judiciary."

“Carbon taxation, coupled with appropriate intergenerational redistribution, can make all current and future generations better off. Indeed, it can make them uniformly better off.”

Polluters have shifted the cost of their behavior onto everyone else. We have to stand up to them and put a stop their cost-shifting. We need accountability. People -- and especially corporations -- need to pay for the harms they cause the rest of us.

This morning while I was in the shower the air suddenly and completely filled with the smell of toxic diesel exhaust. Opening the shower curtain the air was no better, and I hopped out to discover it had filled my bedroom too. I ran, dripping water everywhere, to the window fan that was pulling in the air and turned it off, then evacuated to the kitchen where the air was better.

@yogthos @simon_brooke What we still need to do is plant trees. A lot of the well-meaning messages on carbon trading create a false equation: we can’t fix it with trees = tree planting itself is useless. As well as huge #CO2Reduction We need a #CarbonTax & we need to use a it to plant trees. 79% of the USA’s electricity comes from direct burning of fossil fuel- transport still relies heavily on direct burning of fossil fuel. Burning trees 🌲 is a disaster but not replanting a worse one.
The Poilievre “Axe the Tax” event scheduled for this coming Thursday has been postponed: “Due to severe wildfires,” the party says, “we have made the decision to cancel planned events".
Awkward. Sort of like: “Our ‘Zombies Aren’t Real’ event is cancelled due to organizers’ brains being eaten by persons/entities unknown.” It’s a cinch Conservatives won’t be moving the rally to Yellowknife either, despite plenty of available space.
If someone buys, leases, rents, owns, uses, or accepts a ride on a luxury private jet it’s proof that they’re an asshole. And that’s being diplomatic.
Goes for corporations too.

Yes, for sure I think people should pay for carbon intensive fuels. But the liberals put all the climate eggs in the carbon tax basket. All the while oil and gas companies continue to get massive subsidies and now its all more fucking magic with carbon storage, small modular reactors, and so here we are. No urgency for anything from anyone. It's kinda depressing tbh #climatechange #canada #carbontax

Went on a walk today with lots on the brain and I just want to say fuck the carbon tax. The liberals hung everything on the carbon tax all while doing literally nothing else about the environment, fiscal policy, public transit policy, nothing. Just magic money is going to fix everything. And of course no other political party has any ideas, or sense of urgency except get rid of the carbon tax. It was never going to change people's behaviours #climatechange #canada #carbontax

Imagine if each of us had a reasonable allocation of greenhouse gasses. We use a card to get the environmental cost of any given products, activities etc taken from our allocation. Activity we undertake beyond our limit, or without using our allocation, we must pay for the recapture of that material. Not my original concept but imagine if organizations, individuals, everyone shouldered their piece
The price of a livable planet must be paid, let’s keep talking about it

India is considering hitting some imports with a carbon tax to offset the impact on the country’s exports by the EU’s so-called Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, expected to take effect in 2026.

I of course agree with re-introducing a carbon tax in Australia. It was criminal that it was introduced then repealed. But it’s interesting to see missing from proposals for a new one the massive economic impact of *not* having an Australian carbon price.
Around 10% of Aussie exports are going to the EU, and those are all going to be subject to CBAM soon. Aussie exporters are going to be paying the carbon price no matter what.
