It's now 6 months since we went #CarFree as a family & I wouldn't have it any other way. Benefits = more activity, more money & more support for local businesses. Plus #HalifaxNS #Kjipuktuk has an excellent #CarShare program. Sadly, we still pay for other people’s car use because driving is so heavily subsidized. It’s why we should all be demanding alternatives to car use – it is cheaper & better for everyone.

@DrTCombs I just don't understand how we allow this? When we first moved to Canada 15 years ago I was shocked at the size of vehicles over here, compared to those in Europe. I asked the car dealer what their most energy-efficient car was & they looked at me as if I was mad. I thought it would get better & I'd have more choice since it was obvious that transportation was impacting the climate. Against my better judgement I've found myself watching "The Last Of Us".

We're in a post apocalyptic world.

One of the main characters just told us that not only is there little petrol left but also that the fuel which still exists is far less potent than it used to be. This explains why a tank full laboriously syphoned from other old vehicles along the road only lasts for one hour of driving.

Highly inconvenient you might think.

But even in this world the only means of transport that any gun-toting American (they're *all* gun-toting, whether good guys or bad guys, adults or children) can consider using would appear to be a huge gas guzzler monster truck.

Every so often there's a wrecked old bicycle to be seen on the set, but it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone that it's possible to ride one.

This is a very very silly TV show which takes itself very seriously.

@mbonsma Yes! We are saving $150-200 a month using car share versus owning (and paying for) our own car! We are lucky to have easy access to a great car share program, but when I talk to my neighbours they can't wrap their heads around not having a personal vehicle. @Nosila Amazing! We struggled to ditch the one car when the kids were younger because they both played sports that meant travelling in different directions. #Communauto was a solution then. Gamechanger was when we discovered that N licence holders could register for #CarShare so both kids now use it on occasion. It takes effort & a shift in mindset but we'll never go back to the #CarCult
