@andria @triangleblogblog ... I don't know her, but I think we met at the #CardinalNews one year anniversary reception in Roanoke. I do hope someone from Cardinal News sets foot in the town where I live sometime this year. "News desert" sounds impersonal, but ever since the Roanoke Times closed its New River Valley Bureau, I have been feeling a high level of news "desertedness." Even the RadfordU journalism program, where I taught, has pretty much fallen apart; ditto the school newspaper.

Cardinal has 5,000+ followers on Facebook and 3,000+ on Twitter. Not sure how much of an audience there would be here. Hashtags for this part of Virginia don't turn up many hits.

I've been watching for other institutions in the area, but not many mentions.
