By the sounds of it, the correct citing of sources seems to be the crux of the critique - is that right? If so, wouldn't it be the easiest thing to quote / refer to a group of people that have held this knowledge rather than (or at the very least in addition to) the (most likely white, male and perhaps colonially motivated) 'discoverer' of it? Giving credit to the people who invented and refined it over thousands of years, rather than the person who happened to write it down first; while simultaneously not devaluing this act of transferring either, as it helps creating visibility of the TEK for people outside the group of original knowledge holders and therefore lays the groundwork of broader practical application, that is such an important part of finding solutions.
