This is terrible. But we do not need more police. Victim centered, restorative justice would hold those four people accountable for the harm they caused. They would have responsibilities. They would have to make restitution. They would have to go through actions, different for everyone, so that both the victimized woman and her children felt safe.

Having mental health professionals ride along with police is a reform that keeps money flowing to the police, when what we need is money flowing to the mental health professionals. #CareNotCages.

Instead of building another jail, let’s build mental health facilities for people. Lets hire mental health professionals, not more cops. If you run the numbers, 1 cop generally costs a city, $300,000 a year. That’s their salary, pension & healthcare. Running the numbers, one cop costs society the same as three mental healthcare professionals.

Mental health professionals who are trained in deescalation have a positive effect. Why does a cop with a gun need to be there at all? To keep the money flowing to police.

It is, quite literally, about sticking side by side with political prisoners and their freedom. That is, until every prison is abolished. Certain Days raises awareness, of course, but it raises funds too—its raison d’être (reason for being).
