Eva Carter - How to Save a Life

Set in England, beginning at New Year 2000. Three main characters take turns to narrate. Starts off as if it might be a fairly typical coming-of-age novel, then expands in timescale and themes.

A couple of times I did have a thought like "can you two not just talk to each other! oh but then the plot wouldn't work." But overall, believable situations and realistically-complicated human motivations.
Wanted the characters to get what they want, and they mostly did in the end... after many a twist and turn :-)

Showering mum is stressful. She's always trying to hurry it up, even when I'm going on fast forward just about. Told her off about it today- said if i (or a care worker) went any faster, it wouldn't be safe (for us or her). And she needs to stop hassling us about it because it makes a tricky job harder. Anyway, mum ended up saying that she thought i gave her the best shower of anyone. Which was nice but i'd much rather she found a little more patience.

Home care agency rang. Another carer called out sick (Tuesday's one was out too). A lot seem to be coming down with something. So they're really short staffed. No carer tomorrow or Sunday. It's only an hour a day. Luckily we can make do.

@drememynd survived a sizeable layoff at thier work last night, so I made comfort food: homemade macaroni and cheese with a side of cooked spinach. Also I delivered extra cuddles and took over the evening cat feeding duty. The little stuff counts.
