Have just come across something on YouTube that I never expected to see, namely the 1957 NBC production of Poulenc's Carmelites.
The cast includes Leontyne Price as Madame Lidoine, the great, underrated Patricia Neway as Madame de Croissy, Elaine Nalbin as Blanche and Judith Raskin as Constance
The blurrs on occasion, but with that cast, who carees ....

Reading through some fellow #Carmelites' conversion stories, I realised mine was so different. Rightly so, everyone has a different journey. Mine was an experience of constantly being attracted to #holiness... Unlike the typical teenagers and young adults, I wasn't interested in the world. I was deeply drawn to Christ, to the Truth, and to his Church.

A Carmelite history lesson: The apostolic visitation of Discalced Carmelite religious caused many headaches for St. Teresa of Avila. Today is the anniversary of Pius V’s decision to entrust those visitations to the Dominican friars.

In 1829 Sr Stanislaus of the Child Jesus from the Carmel of Baltimore received this prayer from her Jesuit spiritual director: “No more my sins shall tempt me to despair, My Father pities and forgives and hears a child's repenting prayer.”

Unsure about the theologians ("only the Saints are theologians," says F. M. Léthel), but #Carmelites are trickling in from the birdsite (not fast enough to suit us). Pax tecum! :ablobcatwave:

Hi Simon Pulleyn, do you think that we could add #Carmelites to your list of religions? :ablobcatwave:
For, in the natural order of things, Mary through her Divine Maternity takes on the closest degree of relationship with God himself, who took a body from her body; furthermore, because she is a virgin, such a degree of consanguinity bestows on Mary the right not only of maternity but also of paternity over Christ. And this relation will last forever.

“Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord”. Carmelite life [for Raphael Kalinowski] began when he had already turned 42 years old. In the silence of recollection & contemplation another “movement” is hidden. The movement of which St. Paul speaks: “forgetting what lies behind & straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:13-14).
St. John Paul II

St. Edith Stein’s letter of 3 January 1939 says, “Rosa is making attempts to come to Holland.” Edith's older sister, who accompanied the Saint on visits to convents after her conversion, was baptized in Cologne on Christmas Eve 1936. But a dark night awaited Rosa when she returned home to rejoin the extended Stein Family in Breslau.

Yes! She brings holiness down from the clouds to street level, so to speak.
As a #translator for our #Carmelites in Paris, one comment I often make is that the term "confidence" that constantly appears in the English translations of her writings is wrong 95% of the time.
In Letter 197, when she writes, "It is confidence and nothing but confidence that must lead us to Love", what #StThereseOfLisieux really wrote is #trust leads us to #love 🌹

Lord,
you are the glory of those who serve you.
Look lovingly on our departed brothers and sisters,
united in following Christ and his Mother
by the waters of baptism and the bonds of Carmel.
In your mercy
grant them everlasting sight of you,
their Creator and Redeemer.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.
