The largest collection of standing stones in the world, and utterly haunting and awe-inspiring: les alignements de Carnac in Brittany. Over 3,000 of them, perhaps as much as 7,000 years old. These photos are from a trip there yesterday. I’ve wanted to see them for a long time and had my tiny mind blown. What a spectacularly beautiful and mysterious place it is.

Okay...the situation in #carnac is not that easy.
But what I don't understand is, why there was no professional archaeologist during construction on site to double check, if there are really no archaeological remains. We are talking about an area of several kilometres and around 3000 menhirs...you better double check before you built there...

Quelques infos sur les "quatre pierres" (selon le maire de Carnac) qui ont été détruites, broyées par les pelleteuses du chantier Mr Bricolage.
Cette cinquantaine de petits monolithes d'un mètre de haut étaient sans doute les plus anciens de la région, datés de 5480-5320 av. J.C (mésolithique).
Le seul autre site aussi ancien est celui de Gobekeli Tepe.
Près de ces petits monolithes, sur un autre site de Carnac, ont été retrouvées des haches de jade italien.
