That's a good explanation, yet with a heartbreaking middle part.
I learned about the word #carnism there.
Luckily I got converted to go #vegan by my daughter years ago.
Ironically I tried to protect her from such cruelty, not knowing she was already far beyond me understanding what's going on. Silly parent, I am.
Now I can't unsee nor unlearn this.
That's the hardest part - the everlasting knowing of the cruelty. Hundreds of thousands of animals tortured to death just while I wrote these lines here.
All the funny quips from good friends... I smile, live with them, sometimes argue, but mostly accumulate tears.

It's a whole thing that's way too deep and nuanced to say it in 500 characters.

And #carnism is just one of many "normal, natural, necessary" given things we've inherited. This Sam Harris quote fits well here. "Free will is an illusion. Our wills are simply not of our own making. Thoughts and intentions emerge from background causes of which we are unaware and over which we exert no conscious control. We do not have the freedom we think we have."
