Sitting next to the blooming orchid is a what I think of as a big pot: an inner pot with multiple sarracenia plants sitting in a water bath. My eye was drawn to something sparkling so I took a closer picture. The edge of the lid of this pitcher looks like it has golden sparkles but it instead there are drops of something sticky (evidence: cat hair). I wonder why, outside of the trap. Lure?

Turned the left overs into #compost like mulsh for the plants, worms and slugs to enjoy.
Hopefully the #plants will have survived my help. We shall see. 😅

I'm a fan of LECA for most plants including #Hoya, but I wasn't sure how my #Carnivorous plants would go in it, I moved a few plants to #LECA to see how they'd go.
What I've found is that #Pitcher plants love LECA, they grow even better in that than they would in moss, so I'll move them all to LECA soon.
I would not recommend it for Venus Fly Traps, I tried and lost the plants, the roots are too small and too close to the surface, so they fail to get enough water.
I haven't tried Sundews, but from memory they have long roots so should be ok.

And if you simply must have a massive mammal for your daily #megafauna, consider the largest bear ever: #arctotherium. Emerging between 4.9 and 1.8mya in South America, it stood 11ft tall and could weigh over 3000lbs.
More #carnivorous than its extant relative, the spectacled bear, arctotherium's intimidating size allowed it to eat giant sloths and glyptodons by chasing more agile predators off their kills. It died off ~0.5mya, likely due to increased competition and changing climates.
