I decided to be a grown-up ™️ and do some maintenance on Charlie, my car. Fuel filter, oil filter, oil, basic bitch stuff.

The fuel filter has been replaced with an exact copy which is 3mm wider than the original. Meaning the bracket won't close because I have the strength of a stoned sloth.

The sump plug won't come out despite torquing it to exact specs last time.

Charlie needed this stuff but I think she needed a pro.

I don't have pro money.

Random thing: I’m pretty good with cars. If you have a minor car issue, I can probably talk you through fixing it yourself, or steer you towards resources for fixing it. Over my adult life, I’ve saved myself tens of thousands of dollars by doing almost all of it all myself.

The last mechanic must've thought, "That's the next guy's problem."

We were replacing the whole braking assembly anyway, so I ended up taking a wheel cutter to the bracket the bolt went into and dremmeled the backside until it fell free.

I just put the handbrake on in the car when we were parking and it made a weird rattle noise. It feels. 'looser' to use now, and just doesn't feel right.

We tested it (stopped in a hill and engaged it) and it seems to be holding fine... but I'm nervous about it.

The car is still covered by warranty, but I also know how adept insurance places are at shrugging out of those agreements, and I just can't deal with the idea of needing to pay for car repairs on top of everything else.

Why does it have to be so hard. 😕

#Car shifting lever was having difficulty returning to center when warmed up (not a gearbox problem, luckily), so after much research I did this procedure:

Slightly scary removing the ECU, but all went well. Lubricated the cables, joints, lever and return spring and fixed a loose hydraulic hose while in there.

Tomorrow we'll drive to town and find out if it's sorted now.

Car battery dead 2 days in a row. After jumping it and driving around yesterday, it started up a few times with no problem, but it's dead again. An alternator is either working or not, right? My car is my new boyfriend now, very demanding with its leaky sunroof and all the fallout. Being codependent and desperate with rain and hail and severe weather on the way, I have attempted a repair on my own, sprayed the interior with a boat extreme weather gel, blanketed with towels, made 2 appointments for next week (there is nothing sooner). If any boyfriend from a previous life wants to chat again, the answer is no. I have a life now. 😂

I put in a food order and had no idea a Mexican restaurant has mixed drinks on their menu. I would have ordered way before now. 😂 It's been a messy day. I've had trouble with rain getting into my car, somehow. It may be the sunroof. I have all these cleaning products and bags that magically soak up the moisture. But...I don't have a lot of cash for a repair. ugh....Anyway, I will drink something tonight and eat Mexican food and stop thinking about it for a bit.
