I am *very* aware that my car has a headlight out, I plan to replace it very soon but, in the meantime, I'm attempting to compensate by staying further back from the car ahead of me than I normally would so I'm more visible.

And then there are these MFs out here driving around in the rain *at dusk* with their headlights off entirely meaning that even their taillights aren't on. I don't care how good a driver you are, you shouldn't have to be told that driving around in an invisible car is an incredibly *bad* idea. Regardless of whether it's required by law, if there's enough rain you need to put your wipers on, you should put your headlights on as well. Daytime running lights aren't enough because your tail lights won't be on.

Seattle Police killed a 23yo woman with their patrol SUV. This is at least vehicular manslaughter, the officer should be charged immediately.

The released police statement leaves open these questions:

1. What time was she hit vs aid provided?
2. Did the officer stop?
3. Did the officer claim to have lights and siren on?

The simple answer is agencies like the NHTSA perform their safety tests in idealized laboratory settings. This allows manufacturers to tailor their products for the test, not the real world. Certain EVs place their absorption zone very low on the chassis. Very effective against a fixed barrier. Very dangerous against a raised truck or Semi. #cars #carsafety #techhistory

Most other studies have been harsh on AEB; I think what's happening is it's actually preventing a lot of crashes, some of them serious, and the late spike in road deaths would be even worse without 80%+ of new vehicles having it.
