I really have an issue with the founding myth of

Queen Elissa was told by Hiarbus, a local Mauritani tribal chief, she was to marry him or he would burn Carthage to the ground.

She built a huge pyre - choosing to go to her dead husband rather than marry this king and surrender her city.

Now, my issue: How does this fix the problem? She kills herself - and he STILL can take the city!

Is there NO Roman Poet you can believe anymore?
Do NONE of them see the huge plot holes? 😂

“No Roman or Carthaginian could have dreamed in 264 that their states were about to embark on a twenty-four-year struggle which would involve huge casualties, still less that it would be the first of three wars between the two peoples” (65). It is against this backdrop that the historian Adrian Goldsworthy sets his thoughtful, well-documented analysis of the Punic Wars, the multigenerational co... worldhistory.org/review/379/th

The history of the ancient world has always been told as a history of cities, from Homer's epic poems about events just before and just after the sack of Troy, through the prose histories of wars between Athens and Sparta, Rome and Carthage. worldhistory.org/article/1588/

Once upon a midnight dreary
I was weak I was very weary
All alone and no one I could phone...

It was bleak it was in December
Ah, distinctly I remember, I was cold and nowhere to call home

Oh, the raven,
His eyes have beheld the dark and mighty
Oh, the raven, in his eyes...

Imprudently lay down for a quick nap around 5, woke dopey at 8. Filled the remainder of the evening with snacking and the Fall of Civilizations' new episode on .

This time I listened to the audio only, and in other tabs searched up maps and people as events unfolded, and I found it more engaging than passively watching a stream of moving images.

What a story though.
