I kinda wish my social studies teachers had done something like this to really drive home just how much map projections distort things at the edges.

Each one of the pink lines on this map is the same "length”: 1570.8 km.

At the equator it spans 30º of longitude.
At 60ºN/S, it spans 60º of longitude.

On the days when I allow myself #TTRPG posts, I will sometimes burble happily about Hammondal: Light of the Candle Islands, a fantasy city sourcebook/worldbook in progress. It's got a lot of Dwarves and puppet-people and ghosts and a hidden feline community and a talking sandwich (with a chip on his shoulder). The chip _doesn't_ talk, but that doesn't mean you can eat him.

More lost future: in 1926 the British War Office produced this "Map Showing Areas in which Main Imperial Airship Routes Will Probably Develop".

The cities shown are there for obvious reasons, with only Bedford in England being mysterious. The Royal Airship Works was there and its airship sheds still stand.

Events leading to the end of this future were already underway: the R101 was being worked on and after it crashed in 1930 airships were suddenly The Past.
