On vacation. Road-tripping to #EastFrisia (where I‘m from and will always feel at home).
Stayed overnight in the beautiful #Münsterland region and visited the moated castles of #Lüdinghausen. Below: Castle Vischering (built structures date to the 16th and 17th century) and an early modern wall section with an incised sun dial #CastleContent

Last day 🥲 of my mini vacation back home in #EastFrisa / #Ostfriesland. Visited the remains of the late medieval/early modern fortress of #Leerort. A few earthen embankments at the confluence of the rivers Leda and Ems is all that remained from the once mighty defense works. Originally built by the city-state of Hamburg to hold Frisian chieftains and piracy at bay, Leerort later came into the possession of the chiefly Circena family and was extended throughout the 16th century #CastleContent

Long weekend back home in #EastFrisia / #Ostfriesland. Walked by the Harderwykenburg in Leer, one of the few remaining tower castles from the period of the warring East Frisian chieftains. The brick tower was built under Hayo Unken II Ripperda in the 15th century and known back then as the Unkenburg. In early modern times, the castle was converted into a mansion and the defensive moat was backfilled. #CastleContent

A few days of vaccation in #EastFrisa, where i grew up. Visited the „Steenhaus“ (Stone House) in Bunderhee, one of the oldest castles of an East Frisian chieftain (hovetling) still preserved. The tower castle dates back to the 14th Century, the adjacent House was built in the early modern period #CastleContent
