There was a dispute over one of the less cost-effective operations of the Napoleonic Wars - the Walcheren Expedition. #castlereagh had to resign as a result - later to return to office.

#castlereagh later become #foreignsecretary as did #canning even later. #canning later was #primeminister but did not last long - dying in office. #canning had a mixed record - his support for #catholicemanicipation and the independence of countries in Central and South America could be regarded as positive even today.

Actually there was a duel like that in the early #nineteenthcentury on #putneyheath - less than a mile from where I live. It involved two #tory #ministers - #castlereagh and #canning. Not sure whether the #wimbledonandputneycommonsconservators would agree to a re-run.
