If, for some reason, you were depending on alhazred.podsothoth.club for your podcast RSS feed, and managed to avoid updating in the last 4 months or so, you'll want to instead subscribe to https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1078223.rss (or whatever your podcast app wants, they should all have the right RSS feed now).

Deleting the DNS entry is the final step in ending my #Castopod experiment. I'm sure it'll be great, wonderful software. It does a good job at slinging #RSS. The team there seems committed to making it behave as you would expect on the #Fediverse.

The update procedure is just too much for me to deal with; I suspect is true for most self-hosted solutions, especially when you care about things like security and getting fixes in a timely way. But it is open source, so I'm sure patches are accepted!

Good luck to them. It's a cool project, just too much for me.

Okay, I think it's time to ask for advice.

Fedifriends, I want to host a blog using Eleventy, a podcast using Castopod, a hub site that my root domain points to that's something like Linktree (for example: https://littlelink-custom.com) and have the ability to add sites in the future such as a wiki or an instance of something on the Fediverse (not Mastodon, too much pressure, maybe Bookwyrm or Peertube or some such).

I have a VPS hosted by a cloud host provider with 2 G RAM and 40 G disk storage. It seems that to do what I want, containerization is the way to go. So my question is, do I go the LXC route, or teach myself Docker, or is there another solution?

Most of the things I want to host already have Docker images, and what with Docker being so popular it seems like learning it would be smart. On the other hand, Docker and its variety of tutorials are aimed at developers. I am not a developer. I don't want to be a developer. I am at best a hobbyist sysadmin and that's putting it politely. It just feels a lot like learning how to run a whole Starbucks just to make a cup of coffee. Bit of overkill.

So what do you think? Docker, LXC, something else? Am I even on the right track?

(I am already good with domains, DNS, security certs and IP addresses, I've been working with that for a long time now.)

@mike it will be nice when you do this for #Fediverse instances instead of just mastodon - you're missing out on the majority amount of the available servers and types of media.

Talking about stepping out of your comfort zone! With a little help from nerd in residence @ton I have #castopod running on my Yunohost server. On to producing content. You know, that thing I actually am skilled at.

Anyone with experience here in hosting #castopod on their own #vps with #yunohost ? What type of VPS in terms of specs (cpu, ram, hdd) would one need?

@Gibro Ja, das denke ich auch. Im #Castopod Backend kann man Kapitelmarken (Format: JSON Chapters) und Transkript (Format: SRT) hochladen. Das hatten wir aber im Knowledge on Air Podcast noch nicht, waren zu faul 🙂

Interessand finde ich noch, dass man direkt im Backend Videoclips (was @rstockm für #Ultraschall vor hat) und Tonschnipsel (Sound Bites) erstellen kann. Habe ich noch nicht probiert, will ich aber noch.
