We've had a significant win against casualisation after Sheffield Hallam University agreed to move associate lecturers off zero-hour contracts.

The agreement goes a long way to addressing the insecurity of zero-hour contracts and inequalities between associate lecturers and other members of academic staff.

So, is the #influencer phenomenon actually just the #casualisation and #outsourcing of the #marketing profession, and hybridization with modeling?

The dispute also involves pay inequality (disparities with respect to race, gender, etc), unreasonable #workload models that require working unpaid overtime or sacrificing the quality of your research or teaching, and #casualisation, where universities hire folks on short term or zero hours contracts, creating incredible #precarity and #insecurity.

I would like to clarify that for myself and most of the colleagues I know who are taking #IndustrialAction or are on #strike today in #Queensland, this has never been primarily about wage rises, but rather our disgust at the mass #casualisation of #TertiaryEducation, effectively increasing workloads, and cutting younger graduates out of meaningful employment pathways. #NTEU

This from #facebook ... the truth is #casualisation at #universities as well as elsewhere is endemic. The major parties are doing nothing about it. Sooner or later we need to #fightback.
