My own kid had hazel eyes at birth (my two grandfathers have lighter eyes bcuz mixed ancestry, white and Black and white and Filipino). Her eyes are now a darker brown like me and hubby's. But blue? I've never met a Black infant with blue eyes. There's that one cutie pie who got famous like a decade ago for having brilliant blue eyes like a comic character, but otherwise? Not a thing to be asserted as "all babies".

I can't imagine being so intensely isolated from the global majority (cuz POC are the global majority) that you think all babies have blue eyes when they're born and are so confident in it that you write it in your book where one of the main characters is *half indigenous* It pops up in my head from time to time because it's truly SO ABSURD and weird. Like, at best, Black newborns have light brown/hazel eyes.

It's an incredible assumption to make. I was 19/20 the first time I saw a baby with blue eyes despite both their parents having brown eyes. I watched her eyes change to brown as her nanny. It was kind of amazing. Any other babies with blue eyes had blue-eyed parents, but I also only know like 4 people with blue eyes.
