For those of us who translate to or from any of Spain's co-official minority languages, if this proposal is ever approved, it would mean that the EU's excellent multilingual terminology database IATE would start to include terms in those languages.

Spain has asked the EU to add the Basque, Galician and Catalan languages to its list of 24 official languages as part of Pedro Sánchez’s efforts to woo smaller regional parties, whose support he needs to secure a fresh mandate as prime minister.
Brussels would need to translate hundreds of thousands of pages of EU law into these languages, adding to the strains on its stretched translation service.

High drama in Spanish federal politics as the major left and right coalitions (PSOE/Sumar and PP/VOX respectively) hold identical seat numbers in Congress. The king makers? The nationalist Catalunya party Junts and Basque party ERC. All eyes, though are on Junts as they have the largest number and could deliver power to either coalition if all its members vote for one of the two candidates for House Speaker.
The nation will hang on the words of Carles Puigdemont, as he is expected to announce, from exile in none other than Waterloo, Belgium, how his party will vote and thus, whether Spain will continue with a progressive PSOE led government with Sanchez continuing as Prime Minister, or have a new, tenuous, rightwing government for as long as it lasts.

Me parece bien que se quiera hacer posible, pero lo veo más como un gesto de buena voluntad que otra cosa. En lugar de discutir por ese minúsculo granito de arena, deberíamos exigir que se pusieran las pilas con medidas de verdad.
