Storm Baby getting dinner

A Metro Cat Rescue volunteer saved Storm Baby from the mud. The mother cat had given birth on an old curtain under a backyard deck. When a storm blew in, mom moved the other babies, but this one was stuck in the sopping wet cloth.

The infant had to be bottle fed every so many hours, from early morning until late at night.

Dusty was one of 4 outdoor kittens cared for by a number of people in the neighborhood. The happy feline rascals spent the day playing. The other three are now dead -- probably from rat poison intentionally put out to kill cats or raccoons.

Griselda bounced right back from her emergency surgery and ride home during a dangerous weather event. Griselda continues to do well. Sadly, the same can't be said of the rear view mirror. Because of the many high vet bills, there's never been money to get the SUV repaired.

Bringing Griselda home that evening meant going through roads flooded by Tropical Storm Ida. There were times when the water was almost too deep for the SUV to proceed. In the darkness, I didn't see a badly flooded section and hit it at nearly highway speed. A powerful splash was the result. By some miracle, the vehicle didn't stall out. The force of the water did destroy the passenger side rear view mirror.

Griselda was a homeless mom brought inside years ago by a Metro Cat Rescue volunteer. Back on September 1, 2021, Griselda suddenly became ill and was rushed to the vet. Emergency surgery was needed. The cost was close to $1500.

Grateful for the kindness of strangers from the internet today that meant I could get our rescue kitties more kibble. These little guys, the Pastas*, are still eating strictly from their Mama, but Mama says thank you.

* we have a naming scheme for litters where all kittens are given a gender-neutral name on the same theme. These guys are Orzo, Gnocchi, Ziti, Manicotti, Tortellini, and Rigatoni

In fall of 2020, Dutch started showing blood in his urine. The worry was that Dutch was suffering from a blockage. Brought to the vet, tests -- expensive tests -- showed the problem instead to be a bladder infection. Dutch had to be given medicine and for quite some time was weak while recovering. He is doing great now.

Metro Cat Rescue continues to care for Dutch and many others. Pictures are at our Facebook Page:

Dutch was a pet cat who was abandoned in a place where community cats are cared for. He had a rash on his neck. Brought inside by a Metro Cat Rescue volunteer, Dutch was treated for fleas and the rash cleared up.

A few years ago, Silver Cloud became sick. Metro Cat Rescue brought him to the vet. Silver Cloud was diagnosed as having a viral illness. That was bad enough, but what was even worse was the results of the bloodwork: FIV+. Silver Cloud retired from life in the streets and now lives inside. Metro Cat Rescue continues to care for him.

The sun is almost up again but we finally managed to catch the <1 month kitten that was lost and meowing under cars in our neighborhood.

Tomorrow I'll take her to the vet and contact a local association to find her a good home. Feels good.

A Metro Cat Rescue volunteer brought Rosebud inside back in early 2019, just before that year's arctic blast.

Our little girl recently was very ill and needed surgery. Thankfully, Rosebud survived the operation and is doing very well.

Thanks to a Metro Cat Rescue volunteer, many cats living outdoors get a good meal every day.

The next day a radiologist's report was available. It said that the dark area was fluid -- and a mass. We brought Jemma to an emergency vet to have the fluid removed. Last night after coming home and thankfully still this morning, Jemma was doing much better.

Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good. Depending on the nature of the mass, Jemma might be with us just a couple of months -- or even less.

There's very bad news with Jemma. Lethargic, she seemed not to be recovering from last week's dental. She went to the vet for a checkup. The extractions actually had healed nicely. The problem now is that Jemma is having trouble breathing. X-Rays show a dark area in the lobe of one lung.
