Don’t think I’ve ever noticed these beauties flower before.

It’s known as , aka the tree aeonium, tree houseleek, or Irish rose.

These plants are normally not so impressive in garden settings, imo, but seeing these bright yellow conical blooms has raised my estimation of these beauties… no end!

I read with note, that these are an invasive weed in places outside its natural distribution. And from my observations over the years, they’re hearty (relatively drought resistant) and their longevity is epic.

If this were digital art, it would be titled “Don’t feed the birds!!” 🚯

Or perhaps, “Feeding Frenzy” 🤔😋

This was one very busy seeing to business today, near .

Only females gather pollen and nectar; much of which will be stored in the hive for cold-season food.

turning colour here in

is well underway and flora is starting to react accordingly, as blooms prepare to die off, leaves start to change colours and (some) fall.

Gorgeous.

looking lovely post-overnight rains…. this morning.

They look revitalised and cheery.

These are also known as the common sunshine conebush… it produces several stems from the ground of up to 2 metres (6 1/2 ft ) high.

It’s from the family Proteaceae and is of South African origin.

These are growing in abundance - and gorgeously, in a public garden bed in

The ol ID App tells me this is a , commonly known as Lindheimer's beeblossom, white gaura, pink gaura, Lindheimer's clockweed, and Indian feather.

Apparently it’s native to the US, specifically to southern Louisiana and Texas.

This one is bursting with dark pink flowers and looks gorgeous.

🙏💖

Gorgeous classic in - it’s in great nick and still in service!

Love it!

One day this will be a relic, like all the modern ones I’m sure.

But for now… - ‘we deliver!’

Well, most of the time! 🤷🏻‍♂️

The , also known as the , is a plant in the genus Plumbago found in the Mediterranean and Central Asia.

This post is dedicated to @LifeTimeCooking who I know loves these things!

Plumbago I read with interest, is a rich source of . This means they contain powerful antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits.

So it seems these flowers are edible and somewhat healthy if used for decorative purposes on a plate!

are quintessentialy . These are a few large ones growing in a public reserve in .

Pics 1 - 3 are of one that stands approx 70 feet (20+ metres) tall by estimations.

The trunk is gorgeous with its smooth, yet slightly mottled and indented surface.

The base looks gnarled and weathered, albeit a typical visual feature of gums.

Last pic is of two (with differing visual shapes) growing near the roadside and tram tracks.

They’re hearty, resilient and are as as a meat pie and sauce!

’s are so nice. They’re understated and humble in appearance but when they’re out, they’re just lovely.

It’s native to the Eastern Cape in South Africa and is naturalised in Portugal and the states of South Australia, Western Australia, and Victoria in Australia, as well as Pacific Grove, California.

Not sure how a species becomes ‘naturalised’ elsewhere, but apparently it is, in those other locales according to wiki.

Anyone have any idea?

Spotted this curious but regal post box (out of service) this morning on our travels.

My youngest wanted to know if it was used to send mail to Santa 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe he’s onto something?!!

I just love roses.

Little-known rose facts:

1. There are more than 150 species of roses, including shrubs, climbers, and groundcovers.
2. There are also tens of thousands of cultivars (cultivated or hybrid.
3. Not only are they super old, but they also live for a long time, too. A typical Rose can live for up to 35 years!

Gorgeous roses are still blooming late in the season in .

It’s heading for a top of mid 30’s (mid 90’s F) today so that’s a warm one for these delicate, yet stoic beauties.

But they’ve endured a long weeks of similar weather (with some respite in between) of late and are still displaying proudly here in Melbs.

I just love roses. Who doesn’t??

A little-known rose fact:

Archaeologists have discovered rose fossils that date back 35 million years.

Even more astounding, the oldest living rose is 1,000 years old. This impressively enduring rose grows on a wall on the Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany.

These beautiful from were pictured a couple of evenings ago, pre sunset.

Their petals and general structure are well formed and in tact despite coming to the end of their flowering period.

I think the abundance of rain and cooler weather heading into has contributed well to the longevity of roses in Melbs this year.

These pictures show mature, full sized rose heads that are pale pink with a hint of yellow near the stamen (filaments, the hair-like structures in the middle).

They’re elegegant.

This is a flowering with bursts of red, located in , .

It is early in it’s flowering phase, so I’d expect to see a greater coverage of these gorgeous and vibrant flowers in the coming week or two.

I’m sure there will be plenty of these majestic trees to snap and share shortly.

I’ll keep an eye out!

PS - I reckon this red flower gum will attract loads of pollinating helpers! 🐝🐝

Saw this an hour ago in … the flowers are tiny. Each petal is the size of a grain of rice.

It was as if it resembled a thick carpet or rug displaying on a public park garden bed.

This is .

It also flowers purple and pink and is native to southern Europe from the western Mediterranean to southern Italy.

Great for rockeries and gardens alike.
