I think I got obsessed with #cc65 compiler. I abandoned all work until I made a C program for my #apple2 clone which reads a contemporary, but converted image from the file system and shows it on the screen. I'm not even a C programmer. #prodos #pravetz8 #retrocomputing

These bastards at #cc65 included HGR examples files that lack the last eight bytes, being 8184 bytes instead of 8192.
These bytes are useless as they fall into an "HGR memory hole", but that little trick sure gets the idiots that hardcode a transfer of 8192 bytes!

So, expanding the original tutorial code and using a sprite and character set I've once designed for the same demo code written in C and using the #cc65 compiler, here's the result of my #Mos6502 #Assembler workshop for this weekend.

I'd never expected that I would be able to show off this little demonstration code on my #Commodore64 after only two days of reading online tutorials and mnemonics references as well as different sources on the internals of the #VIC2 chip.

But somehow things just fell into place this time, after more than 35 years, and suddenly everything made sense. Or maybe I've finally lost my mind ... who knows?!

What a wonderful machine this is indeed!

Returned to some #cc65 code I wrote a few years ago. Not sure wether to continue it using cc65 or take things a little more back to the roots and use #powerc on the #commodore64 natively.
