#chess #siliconroad #reengineeringtheclassics #cccc One of those scratch your head moments as you desperately try to work out why White isn't just winning a piece and why the engines are only seeing a slight advantage! 56.Re5+ Kf7 57.Rf5 wins a piece (second diagram) but some frantic brain-wracking reveals that 56...Kd6! is possible as after 57.Nxf6 Rxf4, it isn't possible (bizarrely enough!) to protect both rook and knight! (3rd diagram) Really neat!
