This is: Just. Not. True. The US actually has pretty good laws limiting (that is, the responsibility you bear for what your users do). You know all that stuff about how is "a giveaway to ?" That's only true if the internet consists solely of Big Tech companies. However, if you decide to spend $5/month hosting a Mastodon instance for you and your community, that same law protects *you*.

Look, I work in land. It is a Sisyphean challenge getting good things done on the *best* of days - and those are very few and far between - but the good folks in and land are in an absolutely thankless fight against (imo) an unwinnable problem that will inevitably have people pissed off at them on all sides. Content moderation at every scale is difficult, impossible at a certain point, and usually leaves someone/everyone feeling shitty.
