Carbon capture’s sole purpose is for the fossil fuel companies to have an excuse to keep extracting more and for everyone else to keep burning more.

It's everyone's favorite technofix, because it fits very neatly with business-as-usual. It's so good that it made its way into IPCC 1.5C and 2C projections. Anything to keep the economy chugging along and collect the sweet profits for a bit longer.

Once #renewables and #CDR fail to solve the problem it'll be time for #geoengineering. 🍿

Carbon removal is the process of physically drawing down carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and durably storing it. According to the IPCC, carbon removal is more than capturing CO2 from the atmosphere.

It’s also about: “durably storing it in geological, terrestrial, ocean reservoirs, or in products.”

Pyrolysis of annual plant material biomass into #BioChar can amend our depleted soils and bring our thin, precious atmosphere's [CO2] back down.

My preferred carbon dioxide removal #CDR technology is #BioChar but because of sea level rise #SLR there's going to be a growing demand for beach sand replenishment.

@helenczerski Maybe I'm not understanding your point correctly, if so I apologize. "Meddling" in the second point is simply removing what we've already spewed into the atmosphere with unnatural processes, right? I don't necessarily see how that can be a bad thing overall. Surely you're not proposing we disregard the notion of #CDR.

"Understood and fixed" - yes, I agree. We need to learn, understand and respect the intricacies of our relationship with our host planet as a whole species.

A significant problem with a lot of geo-engineering/carbon dioxide removal ideas is that they go like this:

1. A lecture about how meddling with the planet has caused massive problems.
2. A second lecture about how meddling with even more things (previously unmeddled with) is going to make the situation better.

This highly interventionist approach, treating the Earth as something to be improved, rather than to be understood and fixed- this IS the problem. #climate #geoengineering #CDR

We're getting hammered from the left for putting what funding we did towards #DAC #CDR and #CCUS into the Inflation Reduction Act that we did so personally I like to point out positives more than just focusing on the negatives so that we have a better chance towards getting as many Republicans out of power as possible.
