Have to do a gastric emptying study tomorrow. They called to discuss details.

Them: “Are you allergic to eggs?”
Me: “No”
Them: “Okay so we’ll have you eat some eggs and toast - “
Me, interrupting: “ - toast?”
Them: “Can you not have toast?”
Me: “I have celiac disease, so, no”

It is literally on my medical record that I have CeD. And what would have happened had I not interrupted to be like did you just say toast…? Why did they check about the eggs but not about the toast?

When I eat out, I try to order as or as possible, because I like to think I can reduce harm and be healthy at the same time.

Sadly, also being means that a lot of the time, the selections are just not an option for me. Really wish more veganish places would have more options.

How likely is it that both a blood test and some biopsies would produce false negatives while not following a gluten-free diet? Having seen rapid improvement from the low-FODMAP diet for IBS (which also happens to eliminate gluten), not fully eliminating fructans from onions and garlic, and then seeing an immediate reaction to wheat pasta upon reintroduction (within hours), I'm beginning to wonder if maybe celiac disease was missed.

We have some excellent GF beer here in the PNW but no GF + non-alcoholic. There are only a handful of brewed without gluten (not gluten-removed) non-alcoholic beers ✨globally✨.

I sprung for a shipment of Go Brewing’s (Naperville, IL) Freedom Cali Pale and absolutely love it. Hoppy, malty (without barley), fresh and refreshing. Brewed w/o gluten, & they mitigate cross-contamination risk using a gluten-removing enzyme. So rad.

For some reason I always get an error message if I try to submit a negative product review on the Wegmans site. This one was for LaClare Goat Mozzarella:

Personal hack: If I really want a convenient store bought frozen pizza I now always go for a cheese-only one and then add my own toppings (usually just pepperoni). Gluten free crusts almost always need a fair bit of cheese on top to make them palatable and even the good ones are still better that way.

I opened a fudgsicle and then thought 'hm, I'm just gonna check to be sure before I eat this' and boom, malted barley extract. SIGH. Why does it even need that in it? It's so hot and I just wanted a little frozen treat ☹️

Current status: chilling at the Short Street Store in Dubbo, enjoying some * safe pancakes and chorizo for breakfast.

What a charming place!

Question for , mastodon. Was asked this question and realized I had assumed an answer. I assumed that the (iron deficiency) anemia seen with celiac disease was secondary to chronic blood loss caused by the chronic inflammation. But I was asked why would it not be iron deficiency secondary to malabsorption. 🤷‍♂️

Since there are a lot of new people this week, everyone do me a favor and boost my search for people in the with ? I'm trying to get some kind of collection of knowledge together about shopping, restaurants, etc..

If you've got it, or if you're like me with kids who has it, give me a follow or I'll follow you, just so I can get started.

Thanks everyone.

@jonny Not sure where you’re located. We’ in Pittsburgh but have traveled. My wife has celiac, diagnosed 12 years ago. Once you learn the ropes, the Trader Joe’s hamburger buns, Aldi cheesecakes, McDonalds fries in Canada, Aurochs beer… things simmer down. Anyways, always appreciate discussion.

can I give a shout out to trader Joe's for all of a sudden having a shitload of really cheap, good gf food? I am no hail corporate brand slut but $5 frozen pizzas, $5 for 4 big soft strawberry muffins, $4 for freaking BAGELS.... if they pull off the holiest, most impossible to find celiac item, the CROISSANT, I will be complete.

for reference, typical prices are $12 frozen pizzas, $12 loaf of bread (used to be $8), generally 2-2.5x any price and 0.5x the quality

I didn't know where to put this.
It's an article from a digital historical source.

It's about Cleveland's history of steel production and pollution. I grew up in the neighborhoods. Many of the children were born with various medical issues/complications (me and my siblings are chronically ill and disabled in some way). Mass disabling events aren't due to only pandemics of viruses. World reports under document illness and disability. I'm certain of it. is nothing to go by. Might as well be the .

So, ANYWAYS, I realized the past couple days, that my struggles with breathing and are nothing new, I think I am just less resilient, or um... SICKER, and it's harder to roll with the proverbial punches. Seeing the kids struggling with this makes my state worse.

I remember my parents telling me about my oldest brother, born in 1971, having the worst of anyone in the family. My parents didn't own a car, they had to take the RTA (busline, we called it "Rita"), no matter the weather or situation. They had to take the bus, with my asthmatic brother to the hospital, sometimes 2 times a month, due to breathing emergencies, where he would get nebulizer treatments and so on.

I realized. It was the pollution in . My brother was diagnosed with in his early 30's (of course, smoking didn't help, but, he did quit about 5 years ago, I heard this thru the grapevine because he doesn't talk to me anymore). One of his kids (my niece) had an asthma diagnosis as a baby and developed by age 7. runs in my family, as does RA, , , , and of course, , and issues. We are a sick family (increasingly worse over the generations). This can all be traced to and the caste system, , and of course, , , .

So anyways, here's that article:
