was brought to the medical school in in 637 AD with a fractured skull as a result of a sword thrust. The surgeons removed the bone splinters and part of his brain. After his recovery, the chief's mind was said to be even sharper than before. He became a great scholar, writing the `Textbook of Poets` and law commentaries on the `Book of Acaill`. He is also said to have founded the famous Bard School in , County Tyrone.

The skill of the doctors is also demonstrated by the `Ovingdean Trephined Skull`. Two holes were drilled into it at different times. This means that the patient survived the first trephination. The bones around the 2nd surgery had already begun to heal when the patient died of blood poisoning.
