#NZ #Census23 has been a disaster, with cost going over $300m

It took 150 years for the census to treat #Māori with equality, and now 40% of them are missing (compared to 20% of the total population)

The cyclones obviously had a big effect, but there was a trend before then of discouraging Māori from completing the census "because you can't trust the Govt"

The 2018 #population census was also a failure - it's now 10 years since we had accurate #demographics

@christopherd I did my Census on paper for accessibility reasons. It took me four phone calls to get the forms delivered. If that's typical a lower than expected return rate wouldn't surprise me. Similarly the two postal boxes in my suburb of 1600 or more people, aren't easy to find. #Census23
