I have three different pairs of octopus socks. As I was part of three different panels during the week of the 2023 Parliament of the World's Religions, I opted to wear those socks on my panel days. More bucket list creatures from Dumaguete! Flamboyant cuttlefish walk around the sea floor looking for small fish and crustaceans. When they find one, they slowly extend their two specialized feeding arms and snap out in the blink of an eye to grab their prey. A fellow diver and I spent 20 minutes with a single cuttlefish watching it walk and feed repeatedly. Video coming soon!

Blue Ring Octopus are famous for their venomous bite and their vibrant color. Despite their large personalities, they are small in stature. The fourth image below shows the octopus next to a regular-sized marble. It was a delight to watch this species flash its colors, walk around the sea floor, and even interact with a nearby fish.

My Firefly Squid 🦑 linocut for #cephalopodWeek!
This is a linocut print of the firefly squid (Watasenia scintillans), also called sparkling enope squid or hotaru-ika in Japan. These tiny squid live at depth (200 to 400 m) & they are bioluminescent & emit blue light from photophores.
The print shows the squid against a white background so you can see the whole animal & then its reflection is shown …

A lot of people like to call my usual artstyle #pointilism, but I would say that is incorrect. Pointilism makes explicit use of color, whereas I only draw in b&w, so it is more accurate to call it #stippling.
So, here‘s my actual first attempt at pointilism. I tried to draw Baculites, a Late #Cretaceous genus of #ammonite which is notable for briefly surviving past the K-Pg impact.
