This was me trying to find new and interesting things to photograph. I don't think I did an initial sketch... I think mainly because the idea and the real life object felt like more than enough to begin down this process.
There was a lot of clay shavings - I swear I was working on wood each day. 😅

I gave her arms... since I was going through a couple of different emotions from #Kachina && #kokeshi こけし
i should have documented both my mindset, music, and so on but sometimes its best not to. Sometimes it really does not matter to the viewer what it is an artist might be going through. Whether its good or not.

I was thinking about this sculpture today.
Irene tending the wounds of Saint Sebastian, held in York Art Gallery.
It's by Claire Curneen, whose work has grown increasingly, achingly human since this was made in 2006.

Due remote location, kiln access is an expensive logistical challenge. I've found pitfiring works well for very small items, but most of these sculptures won't harden all the way through after a day in a pitfire. Explosions are also an issue.

One of my sculptures, "A Harpy and her Harplings"
Wood stain and oils on fired ceramic.
The version of this sculpture on my site is more glossy and saturated from layers of oil glaze. But I was never quite satisfied with how they looked, so I sand blasted them lightly, and It was an improvement.

Another #sculpture from my series on #myths:
"Tantalus", Wood stain and Copper leaf on fired ceramic.
This one was tricky to build, I made a couple of hearts before I finally got it right, and installing was a challenge. The way the stain took to the hand though was surprising cool and a little accidental. I'll share some process pics soon.
