My dad used to be a boss. Every time he plans our meals, he gives us two choices, say beef and chicken. We pick chicken but he cooks pork. If the choice is between rice and noodles, we pick noodles but he cooks congee. My mum's illustration:

Les bonnes résolutions sont des êtres nocturnes. Elles pullulent la nuit entre les sommeils et disparaissent dès le lever du soleil, jusqu'à la nuit prochaine. Très rarement, on en voit le jour, mais elles ne font que passer trop furtivement pour les attraper.

I’m always a bit bewildered that I’ll publish a piece laying out an argument about whatever, and people will comment that they disagree. Fine. Not surprised. But then they seem to get miffed when I am not swayed by their insults implying that I don’t know what I’m talking about; annoyed that I don’t feel compelled to change my mind to meet their point of view.

This isn’t special to Mastodon, but I am engaging almost entirely with strangers here at this point still.
