As I've mentioned before, I play a electric-guitar-like instrument that I made with 5 strings tuned CGDAE.

This is similar to Fripp's "new standard tuning" CGDAEG but I've always felt that the top G was just an addon to fill the 6 string slots and made no real sense.

If I were to start making 5 string electric guitars tuned CGDAE, and possibly also mandolin versions an octave above, would anyone buy them?

They wouldn't be cheap. But as far as I'm aware they are otherwise unobtainable.
