Sixteen people, including a police sub-inspector and three home guard jawans, were electrocuted and killed at a Namami Gange project site in Chamoli district. Eleven others were injured, with six airlifted to a hospital and five being treated at a district hospital. The incident occurred at the Alaknanda river and is believed to have been caused by an electricity leak in the wiring of the Sewerage Treatment Plant. The Namami Gange project aims to prevent pollution at source and rejuvenate the Ganga river.
