And it wasn’t the people who started these wars – it was their governments (almost universally male)... Their predilection for mass murder is a purely masculine attribute. None of their wars were started by women – a substantive argument to make women leaders of everything. If humans wish to survive, that is.

>The most important thing for people to realise is that nations, individually and collectively, do not have the answers to the existential crisis now facing humanity. They are too selfish, too parochial in their thinking, too politically compromised, too argumentative, too anachronistic. They are an ugly, brutal phase in our history – not a solution to our future. They need to get out of the way. People who cling to nationalistic ideals need to grow up and face reality.

Even if everyone in the world switched today from a gas/patrol car to an electric vehicle, that wouldn't change things. We still would have the same congestion, the same ugly infrastructure, the same risks for pedestrians, cyclists, and children — worse, in fact, because EVs are much heavier.

Even if everyone switched, we would still be producing fossil fuels and plastics, still be digging mines, building more and bigger roads and airports, and still be polluting the land, the air, and the water.

Plus we still would be stuck with the same huge systemic problems, still be slaves to capitalism, imperialism, and the military industrial complex.

EVs alone are not the answer. They may be a very small part of a much larger solution, but that's all.

This illustrates a fundamental problem for capitalism as an economic system. What’s rational for a single business, in minimising costs, is irrational and ultimately destructive of profitability when multiplied across the whole economy. In this case it’s carbon charges, but the same could be said for wage suppression, tax avoidance, layoffs etc.
