Finally got lucky collecting chanterelles. 🙏 They smell amazing 😍. Question for science folk: if both apricots and chanterelles smell of apricots, then is it a coincidence that both are orange, or part of the explanation?

So I don’t know much about but I think I found two different types of chanterelles yesterday? Smooth (Cantharellus lateritius) and red chanterelle (Cantharellus cinnabarinus), both of which are apparently edible and quite tasty! I’m too much of a wuss/ don’t trust my skills so i didn’t keep them to try though. anyone want to weigh in?

Alas, on this fine spring day i long for my feet to hit the trail, instead I'll be driving to town to get a part for the water pump, hoping it will be up and running and i can get on with my life........fingers xxx

Moments: Near Mt Hood, Sept 2018. mushroom gathering. Chanterelles featured in Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma. You can't farm chanterelles. You have to forage in secret places. I was fortunate to bump into a local outdoorsman, and gathering we went. As well as a decent haul, he gifted me some fillets from a recently alive trout. Saute in butter on camp stove, eat, experience sensation of dying and going to heaven.

@Rasta another use for chanties, is to make a broth. The ugly, malformed or weird chanties make the best broth. It's so good to use in stirfrys etc.

It adds a flavour that boosts and blends the rest of the meal, sorta like vanillia in baking.
