This album was on repeat. Its focus is Mary and Marian devotion, and the Madonna figures strongly in the story (seriously mined my Catholic upbringing for that).

here's an obscene poem by poet set to music in a kind of doowop vibe - sung in French and English **at the same time** - a kind of "facing translation" - (formerly of ) sings the French and fab singer sings the English

Oh, and for anyone interested in Renaissance choral music, here's a recommendation: Chanticleer's 'Magnificat'. I listened to the playlist over and over again while working on 'Primavera' since the Virgin Mary plays an important side role in the story. As an a capella group, Chanticleer's just sublime, so this is the perfect combo for musical inspiration.

The link is for the playlist itself.

Addendum to my favorite Christmas song toot: "Un Flambeau Jeanette, Isabella" (Chanticleer's version, naturally).

I'm not religious by any stretch, but I love traditional holiday music (the more obscure, the better). Chanticleer's discography is off the charts in their collections of these Latin, German, Spanish, French, and English songs. And their voices as an a capella group are exquisite.

1/

People have been sharing videos of their favorite Christmas songs, and I've seen a great range of classical to modern. My favorite would be a very specific rendition of a classic. The first time I heard this particular version, I imagined a random scene involving an old man working on a glass ornament. And he was grieving for some reason.

It's funny how weird connections happen by just listening to a song, but there it is.
