Induction evening on my course. Very interesting and friendly mix of people from a surprisingly wide area.
The staff running the course are SO friendly, and whatever they are “on” we all need some.
We can eat and drink in class and bring our own coffee mugs!
I do wonder if I took over the team icebreaker a little too much, but there were times when I thought we weren’t going to decide on how to proceed before the time ran out. Our team was last, but it was fun exercise.
So, yesterday evening I checked my Career Change course email.
Apparently I’d got an odd email on Wednesday.
When I looked at it I was like “Eh?!”
Let’s just say there some weird life symmetry going on here.
It looks like a coincidence and a mix up and a mistake that’s on one level worrying and yet simultaneously for different reasons amusing.
I need to ring someone about it this morning though.
Woo!
Will today be the Wooiest (technical term) Wednesday ever?
It could be the last in the current format as I may have to change the rest for career change reasons.
It’s my first Cubs Meeting as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader tonight.
The original plan was my Investiture would be Week 4, as we have something special planned, and will also invest some Cubs. However the Cub Leader and I together decided to move mine forward.

Saw a social media post for where I’m doing my upcoming course. It said it’s still accepting applications for some courses, so nosey me decides to see if my course is listed.
It isn’t. So I’m going to have lots of classmates. Lots of others to share the journey with. Great stuff.👍
Yes, I know they are potentially rivals for future job opportunities, but they are also potential future colleagues and friends. 😀 🎓
Slightly annoyed I’ve not kept up the pace with my learning reading over last 2 days.
Note: My course hasn’t started, the book was bought without instruction to buy from the institution.
I’m getting myself familiar with as many aspects of the job as possible before I “learn it for the 1st time” doing the course. I’ve already read 1 book about the job & 1 book on a related subject.
And the various volunteering I’ve been doing all helps with gaining a variety of experience.
Received my induction information for my Course in the post. Yay! 🎉 :blobcheer:
They sent it on a postcard! What the flying fiddlesticks?! 🤬
That sort of information should be in a sealed envelope. Extremely poor decision by someone at the learning institution.
This morning an opportunity arose for me to “Lead” the junior tennis session next week…if anyone turns up. (It’s the school holidays after all.) 😆
I’m not a qualified tennis coach, I won’t be coaching. They aren’t meant to be coaching sessions anyway, but fun, so it’ll just be running games, ones they’ve played before.
It’s potentially another useful piece of experience that should benefit my other volunteering and the career change.

When you see something dated earlier in the week and realise if you’d only been more observant the 1st time you could’ve had an unusual freebie.
Doh!
I won’t say what it was, other than that I could have used it to cosplay as a character in the children’s book series I’ve been writing.
Actually, what with all the life changes, I will probably be able to cosplay as quite a few of my characters soon.
Life imitating art, etc.
Looks-wise, to be clear.

I just saw a Poirot gif and the surprising first thought through my mind was "I should go as him for my first World Book Day".
The follow-up thought was "Aren't you going to resemble him the rest of the time? Will they notice a difference?"
The #CheekyCareerChange is certainly resulting in unexpected thought processes.
Having said that, the other day I wondered if I will end up as Mr Majeika.
What I didn't take on board as a kid and commit to memory was what his profession was. 😀
…And though I say “regret” I wouldn’t change it. I wouldn’t be me if it didn’t happen.
Don’t get complacent with study. I wasn’t as smart as I thought I was. I kidded myself, partially as a crutch so I didn’t have to face other things.
So, my advice. Don’t work yourself into a state of worry over studying, if you fail it’s not the end, far from it, there’s always something else you can do.
You can make changes at any point in life, even large changes. Like I’m doing now.
Those of you that are in the know know there’s an irony to this. 😜
But one of the greatest lessons you learn in life is to learn from your mistakes. 👨🏫
There’s no shame in it.👍
One of the things I regret over the course of my life is how I let my studying work ethic slip.
I studied SO hard for my 1st exams. Then, gradually, over the remainder of my initial educational years I got progressively lazy.
It got to the stage that, when I had left formal education, I had reached the point where I would buy things to develop new skills & then it would go no further. A part of me was somehow convinced I would learn by osmosis.
Not this time.
Still can’t believe how much different my life is now compared with when I decided to make a change. And I’m far, far from finished on this journey. Barely begun in some ways.
I did wonder if the journey would be something to endure, or simply an alright necessity, different to the usual, or even a time to tick boxes & keep occupied. I certainly thought that might be the case while I was waiting for my course to start.
But the unexpected happened.

"...just a third (34.6%) of young people aged eight to 18 said that they enjoy writing in their free time..."
Writing for me was always lurking at the back of my young life as something I enjoyed but never pursued as much as I'd have liked.
Returning to it over past 10yrs, particularly last 5, brought new joy & eventually the major changes in my life of the last year.
Without it there would be no #CheekyCareerChange or #Scouting. So this decrease worries me.

I think I may have reached the point where I can’t be called a Gamer any more.
I had the chance to buy Minecraft for £10 & Mario Kart 8 for £20 on Switch, the latter never gets reduced,& I walked out of Tesco with neither, despite wanting the latter for a long time.
I just couldn’t justify it. I’m hardly playing anything,I have a large backlog & a backlog I actually want to still play many of. So I walked away.
And I’ve got the likes of #Scouting & #CheekyCareerChange to find time for.

When I decided to change career, the most significant of my life, I also finally decided to do some volunteering for the 1st time.
I can without a doubt say it’s the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done.
The people I’ve met, worked with, helped, the work involved, the feeling of satisfaction during & after.
I got to a stage I kept seeing other volunteering opportunities & tempted to do even more. But I decided it’s best to concentrate on a few & do them well. #Volunteering #CheekyCareerChange

Got asked yesterday to help with another school tennis session. This time it’s the whole school, but only 1 day, not 1 day for several weeks.
Much smaller school though.
This will be another new learning experience as this will include a lower age demographic than I’ve previously dealt with via other sports development volunteering & Scouting.
I’m really looking forward to my course in the autumn. All this volunteering is going to be invaluable with the career change.
