Yes! #Chekhov was a brilliant author, but however excellent, it is a shame the plays get all the attention. I always thought his most impressive talents were in his stories, and particularly the ultra-short stories. His ability to set a mood and an atmosphere in 10 pages with similar entirely dialog is unparalleled in anything I have read, at least.
Pro tip: He was an immensely bored country doctor. Keep an eye out for those in his stories.

Latest read, Oh! The Public! (1885) and Children (1886) by Anton Chekhov; in each of these tales, characters represent various types. The first is a clash between a zealous, officious ticketmaster & a passenger; the second sketches children's attitude toward money & competition.
Chekhov can feel deceptively simple but they're astute stories.
