I started going through our department’s student study room to flag books worth keeping vs things that are obsolete. Think I may be first one to have done so as most books were up to age we moved buildings along with some older books that had name of retired faculty. Other than paring down to textbooks still being used in courses I was thinking to restock with useful resources. Any suggestions of things that might good to have for an undergrad only #chemisty department?
@AllenNeuroLab It looks like their local feed isn't public, but neuromatch.social might be a place to look for discussions. The science community is spread around here, though there are a few clumps: scicomm.xyz, mstd.science, biologists.social (new, but run by The Company of Biologists so very promising). I'm in chemistry/chemical biology, but the science community here is small enough there is a lot of cross-interaction.
Also hashtags are key, ie: #Chemisty people often use #ChemiVerse
#OTD, 28 February 1901, the chemist Linus Pauling was born. He was one of the most important scientists of all time and the only person to have won 2 unshared @NobelPrize.
The first awarded in the 1954 for his research into the nature of chemical bonding.
The second, eight years later, for his efforts to ban testing of nuclear weapons.

A recent Ars Technica article covered the impactful work of Shahar Keinan and what she and her team is doing at POLARISqb. The brand new episode of QuBites is quite timely then and I have to say I was really impressed. This work could save the lives of many people with much faster drug discovery thanks to #QuantumComputing. 🙏

Solving mass spectra is like eating vegetables as a kid. Yes, it's good for my chemistry; yes, it's good for my me; yes, sometimes I enjoy it; but damn if my inner toddler doesn't just pout in a corner arms folded, saying "I don wanna!" every time I have to do it.
#introduction Hello #chemtoots and #sciencetoots I'm a photochemist, researcher and father of a 2year old. I find fluorescent molecules exciting and like sharing their beautiful colours and other science stuff. Still figuring out this new #chemiverse #chemisty
