#chemophobia is kinda wild tbh. it's the fear of chemical names, and to be fair, sometimes that fear is warranted...but if you put a sign by a pond that says "WARNING: WATER CONTAINS HIGH AMOUNTS OF DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE" nobody will swim in it, even though dihydrogen monoxide is just the basic chemical name for water. (the systematic IUPAC name is oxidane, but dihydrogen monoxide is — or should be — understandable to people unfamiliar with chemical nomenclature)
